ANGEL # 1 Directors Cut

My copies came in the mail today. Forgive the reverse images, just wanted to give you an idea as to how cool this thing is. It's hardstock, reprinting issue 1 (with some corrections). Original script in the back, along with my notes. Such a classy book. Here are the pics:

The cover, by the super talented Alex Garner. Shiny gold lettering!

The back cover. Again, sorry for the reverse imaging.

One of the pages. Check out Gunn's new hoodie. We gave him a blood red sweatshirt to make him stand out from his other vamps, and so there's no confusion on that last page. Always thinking here at Team Angel.

And finally---

The script, along with the notes. So cool.

Hope you guys liked the little preview, definitely check it out, it's worth finding.

Have a good Friday!

Can't wait to get this!

Brian if you want to reverse those pics, just open them up in paint, click 'Image' and then Flip/rotate and then 'Flip Horizontal'

Looks great. It's down in the May solicitations so should be out next week I hope!

Ya know, I love Angel:AFT but the one things that kills me is my local comics shop owner's laments that he could be selling mucho copies except for one thing - he can't get reorders of the early issues. You can put out issues early with multiple covers and directors cuts but the series is being hurt because the guy can't get the issues to sell.

Current issues sales are good but they could be great if the guy could introduce readers to the story.

I have to ask

Whats up?

Will this edition be in the book which unites issues #1-5 that is supposed to come out in June? Thx

Wow, spend two days fretting on the cardiac floor and look what I miss. I didn't know that the writings of the ATF stories were called scripts, that's something new and good to know. The pictures are really interesting, and I like the graphics.

If you don't have paint, you can try flipping the reverse pics in MS Office picture manager. That's usually the program that I use, mainly because it's easier for an avatar junky like myself.

Angel looks a lot like Nathan Fillion on this cover

Nice touch with the Gunn hoodie, that is a really good idea.

I can answer this--comics is largely a print-to-order business. We typically print 20% more books than are initially ordered, to make sure there's enough for re-orders. ANGEL has been a huge hit, to where even though we've gone back to press FOUR times on issue one and reprinted issues two through four, in large quantities, they've STILL sold out. So at some point, when a shop orders fewer copies up front than their customers demand, well, we do our best to make more copies available for everyone but the book just keeps selling out. Which means we can't just be solely responsible for over-printing huge numbers of copies (which we've done with this book anyway), at some point people also need to up their initial orders to ensure they're getting what they want.

I understand minimizing risk and not ordering too heavily, but the risk has to be shared by both retailers and the publisher. We overprint like crazy and the book still sells out, so upping those orders wouldn't be a terrible idea.

I have spent some hours looking for a similar post to eventually stumble on your blog post on web design and London tours sites. There are different views on the topic but i will personally accept what you have elaborated above.
